Rs. 500, Rs. 1000 notes Banned: Baba Ramdev who was first to suggest move, congratulates Narendra Modi on move against black money
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 denomination notes will no longer be legal tender from midnight on November 8. Self-styled spiritual and Yoga guru and the owner of Patanjali, Yog Guru Ramdev ji congratulated the PM on the bold move and said that it was good decision to attack black money. It is pertinent to mention here that Yog Guru Ramdev ji has in the past been by a vocal proponent of the very move that took place on Tuesday, and which caused panic amongst Indians across the country. Yog Guru Ramdev ji has been very vocal on the issue of black money and has even suggested ways to deal with it, one which was also doing away with bigger currency denominations.
“Would like to congratulate PM Modi on making such a good decision, on black money”, ANI quoted Yog Guru Ramdev ji, who own Patanjali- a Rs. 5000 crore venture- said on Tuesday. Yog Guru Ramdev ji, who is known to be known be close the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and had expressed his ‘dissatisfaction’ on the steps taken by the Modi government on the issue of solving the menace of black money, has been known to suggest the move the very first time. “Because of lack of effective steps (by the government) on the black money issue, I and people in the country are dissatisfied”, Yog Guru Ramdev ji reportedly said in the past. He added by saying, “I have spoken with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and BJP President Amit Shah on this issue. When people are listening in Parliament then we should not speak on the street. At least they are listening.” Prime Minister Modi announced in a surprise speech tonight that the denominations will be discontinued, in an order to launch an attack on black money. Some systems have been put into place to take care of the inconvenience which will be cause to people due to the denomination ban. People with Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes can exchange them at their respective banks, but only from November 11, as banks will be shut on November 9 and November 10.
